Who might make history next.

The Journal documents people already making history. The Fellowship develops the people who may make it next. A working programme, not a course.

For people turning potential into contribution.

For somebody already doing something real, who is missing capability rather than ambition.

A founder whose business is not working yet. A researcher whose question is bigger than their department. A teacher, an engineer, a clinician, an organiser. Age is not the criterion. Where you are in the work is. You do not need capital, a particular degree, a title, or anybody's permission.

Five levels. Readiness, not seniority.

Everybody is placed honestly at the start, and it is usually lower than they expect. That is what makes a programme useful rather than flattering. Choose a step.

Clarity

You can say what problem you are working on, in one sentence, without describing yourself. Until you can, everything after it is guesswork.

Capability

You can do the thing, not only explain it. The level most often skipped, and the reason so much promising work stalls in its second year.

Evidence

Something exists that would not exist without you. Small is fine. Real is not optional.

Consequence

It works when you are not in the room. Other people can run it, improve it, and disagree with you about it.

Stewardship

You build people and structures beyond yourself, and you are measured on what continues after you leave. Producing more people like this is the whole point.

Six things we assess. All of them published.

Scored at entry and again at the end, by more than one assessor. You see your own scorecard in full, including the uncomfortable parts. Nothing is scored that is not on this page.

At entryAt the endAn illustration, not a real fellow

Judgement

Can you tell a real constraint from an assumed one? Do you change your mind when the evidence changes, and can you show an example?

Agency

Do you act without waiting for permission, and take responsibility for what follows? The strongest single predictor on the scorecard.

Execution

Do the things you start get finished? Not perfectly. Finished. The gap between people who plan and people who ship is visible from outside.

Ethical judgement

What do you do when the right choice costs you something? Assessed through decisions already made, not through promises.

Collaboration

Can you build with people who are not like you, from another country, discipline or politics? Almost nothing that matters here gets built alone.

Stewardship

Are you building something beyond yourself, or a monument to yourself? Can you name the people who have grown around you?

You A colleague A client A student A supplier A neighbour A manager
Weighted towards the people who depend on your work, not the people who supervise it.

The people who have worked with you know things no interview will ever find.

Every selection process rewards whoever is best at being assessed. The Community Backing Score is the correction: you name people who have worked with you or relied on you, and they answer specific questions, under their own name.

How the score works
What is asked
Specific things, not impressions. Would you work with this person again? What did they do when something went wrong? Have they given you credit they could have kept?
What it is not
Not a vote, not popularity, not social media, not a reference letter. More supporters do not raise the score.
What it does
It is one input among several, and it can move a placement either way. A strong interview with weak backing tells us more than anything else.
Fairness
Anybody named is told what the score is for and may decline. Fellows see the overall score and its themes, never individual answers.

A development laboratory, not a lecture series.

  • An honest placement

In person, in full, including the parts that are difficult to hear. Nobody is developed by being flattered.

  • Work on the actual thing

You bring the real problem you are working on, and the programme moves that forward.

  • People who have done it

The people documented in the Journal are the people brought into the room.

  • A cohort for twenty years

Mixed countries, sectors and languages, because the relationships are what compound.

  • A record of your own

What you work through is documented with your permission, and you own your material.

Applications for the first cohort open shortly. Tell us now and you will hear first.

This is a short registration, not the application. Dates, costs and the full application reach you the day they exist. A person reads everything you write here.

In your own words. One paragraph is enough. Tell us what exists so far, not what you hope will exist.

The honest version. What you are missing is more useful to us than what you have achieved.

One or two people who have worked with you or relied on your work, and how they know you. You do not need to contact them yet.

We read everything. We reply to everything we can.
